In October of 2005, OrwellProject.com interviewed Cycle 5‘s Kyle Kavanagh following her elimination and appearance on the show. Here is the text from the interview (written and posted by Jackie Helm):
Interview with Kyle, the seventh eliminated competitor from Cycle 5 of America’s Next Top Model
Hi Kyle. Your tears almost made me cry! As soon as it got down to you and Bre, you already seemed upset. Did you know that it would be you to go?
Yes I knew. After going into elimination that day, seeing my pictures and having the judge’s critique me – I just knew. It was heart breaking but I guess I had to face the facts.
I think you had beautiful photos. You showed desire and gave effort to keep improving. You also maintained high self confidence. It also seemed that up until now, you received positive critique from the judges. But suddenly you were deemed “just pretty”. After doing so well, what do you think was the real reason that you were eliminated?
I guess I was not what they were looking for. I tried my hardest and I feel like I was improving. I don’t think that they saw the improvement that I did. I could tell that with each picture that I was getting the grasp a little bit more each time. Maybe they were just not seeing that. It’s hard to say. I was a little confused – I thought that I would have lasted longer. I was a little bit confused when they did not call my name.
If you could do anything different what would it be?
I took the criticism way too hard on my self. It is so stressful going to panel. They would always say something negative. I think I really took it to heart and I wish I would not have done that. I wish I had been myself. As the competition went on, I tried to form myself into something that they wanted. When I really wish I would have not taken their criticism as harsh, just been myself, and not worried about it.
How did you feel about the remarks that Jayla made toward you?
Well, I was pretty shocked by those remarks. Before then I thought Jayla and I were friends. We were never close but we never had any arguments or anything. It was really shocking to see that apparently we are not friends anymore. It was really shocking to see her dog me.
What girls were you closest to or still in touch with?
I was definitely closest with Kim. We had such an awesome friendship. We clicked right from the start, right from semi-finals. There was something about her that drew me to her and we just clicked ever since then. I still talk to her everyday. She is amazing.
Are you going to continue to pursue modeling?
Definitely! I plan on taking it 10 levels higher. I am so excited to be able to start modeling again. I think that this experience will o nly make me better. I feel like I have learned so much.
Have you kept your hair brown or dyed it back to blonde?
I have kept it brown. It’s actually been a few different shades of brown. I might go back to being blonde in the future but I like being a brunette for now. It’s definitely something different.
Have you gone back to Dairy Queen in the meantime?
Right now I am at Dairy Queen. We are not allowed to model until the show has aired completely. Once that finishes, I am ready to move, I am ready to take the opportunities that come at me.
Is Dairy Queen getting a lot of extra business?
We do have people come looking for the Top Model. But that is not me anymore – I am not o n the show anymore (laughs). But, it’s funny to have people come and ask for me. It’s really cute.
Who got o n your nerves the most?
I would definitely have to say Lisa got o n my nerves. She is a great person and really nice. But we just had our differences. She was always in my face saying the wrong things that I did not want to hear.
So were you on Coryn’s side during Coryn and Lisa’s tiff.
I was definitely on Coryn’s side. Lisa brought it o n herself. Coryn told her, “don’t talk to me I don’t want anything to do with you.” Lisa kept antagonizing and talking to Coryn. So that was Lisa’s fault. I was definitely on Coryn’s side.
What was your favorite photo shoot?
My favorite photo shoot was when Janice was our photographer in the plastic surgery shoot. It was so crazy to work with Janice. I didn’t think that I would be able to (work with Janice) since she wasn’t a judge anymore, but it was so cool to be able to work with her.
In the obstacle course was the mud as nasty as it looked? Did you guys really smell bad?
It wasn’t mud. I have never smelled mud that was that horrible. It was the most disgusting thing that I have ever done in my whole life and I will never do it again.
Wow, Nicole did make a remark about having poop all over her, but I was thought she was just exaggerating the mud.
No. It was disgusting. It dried up on us and we had to sit in it for like 9 hours. once we got back to the house we were fighting for the showers.
You had to sit in it for 9 hours?
Yes, we had to sit in it all day long let alone go o n a go-see smelling like crap!
Oh my gosh – so was it really poop?
I think so.
They didn’t tell you?
No, they didn’t. They said it was mud but I doubt it. I highly doubt it. It was literally crusted on our bodies. There were bugs o n my skin. It was really disgusting.
Do you have any last words or shout outs?
Not really. Thank you to everyone who has been following along with the show and supporting me. It’s been really nice.
Thank you Kyle! Good luck and take care!
