In January of 2009, Out.com interviewed Cycle 6’s runner up, Joanie Dodds to catch up on her career since Top Model. Here is the text from the interview (written and posted by Out Staff):

Where Are They Now: Top Model – Joanie Dodds

1. What have you been up to since you were on the show?

Since the show I’ve been working in Los Angeles, and have traveled to Milan and Hong Kong. It’s been great. Currently I’m making a little switch to television and I am hosting a home improvement show on the DIY Network called Run My Renovation. It’s so exciting!

2. Do you think the show accurately portrays the life of a model?

As far as Top Model goes, its portrayal of real modeling isn’t exactly true. NO model apartments are ever that cool, there are no challenges, and in the real world, if you are not skinny, it’s not OK — they will expect you to lose the weight, not love you “just the way you are.” The show just wants to be nice to the girls who want to model, but in all honesty knows that they cannot. It’s sad, but it’s true.

3. What was your favorite challenge?

The challenges were crazy. My favorite one never made it to television. We were hypnotized and made to sing crazy songs like “I’m a Little Teapot.” It was my most and least favorite — it just made no sense.

4. What was your least favorite challenge?

See above.

5. Give us a little dirt on Tyra: Is she as nurturing as she appears? Or what was your favorite memory?

Tyra, although she is the smartest mogul I have met, is a bit fake. Well, maybe not fake, but she really doesn’t care to talk to me when I see her. It’s all business with her. There is nothing but love for Tyra, but she is out for blood and doesn’t seem to have time for the girls from the show. I am not a super huge fan, but she has done a lot for me, so I can’t hate.

6. Who was the biggest villain on your season?

The biggest villain was Jade for sure, but we are cool now and she comes over to my house sometimes.

7. Who is your favorite supermodel?

My favorite model is Gisele.

8. What is your favorite fashion trend right now?

My favorite trend right now is tweed, I love it.

9. What is your least favorite trend right now?

My least favorite trend right now is skinny jeans with Converse. Being a hipster is fine, but c’mon — show a little more diversity with fashion.

10. What’s the biggest misconception about models/modeling that you’d like to clear up?

The biggest misconception with models is that they are stupid — no way. The girls I have met and worked with are so cunning and street-smart. They know exactly what they want and how to get it. It’s a tough job, but if you are a smart model, you are where you want to be and you are working.

In November of 2009, Beaver County Times posted an article regarding Cycle 6’s runner up, Joanie Dodds, regarding her new gig as TV Host for “Run My Renovation” on DIY Network. Here is the text from the article/interview. (Written and Posted by Scott Tady):

From modeling to remodeling

Beaver County’s reality-television sweetheart has found a new TV gig.

Joanie Dodds — who’d you think I meant? — will co-host “Run My Renovation,” a home-improvement show on the DIY network.

“We just started filming, so it won’t be on TV until like January or so,” Dodds, formerly of Patterson Township, said. “It films in Knoxville, Tennessee, about every other week, so I’m on the road a lot but it’s a super fun experience and I’m learning so much. I even get to drive a big red pickup truck.”

Doesn’t take much to please the former “America’s Next Top Model” runner-up, eh?

Since her appearance on that CW program, Dodds, 28, has become a pro model, spending a few months this year in Italy’s fashion mecca, Milan.

But a steady job as a TV show hostess is a bigger deal, even if on a network like DIY, which people with basic cable or standard satellite service can’t get without an upgrade.

“I just hope that this is the beginning of an empire for me and I am the next Pam Anderson-Martha Stewart hybrid,” Dodds said with a laugh. “I’m going for sexy mogul.”
