Brooke Staricha Interview with (Apr 06)

July 31, 2010

In April of 2006, interviewed Cycle 6‘s Brooke Staricha following her elimination and appearance on the show. Here is the text from the interview (written and posted by Girl Posse Staff):

The Interview

Brooke’s life before America’s Next Top Model was pretty normal as she attended college at Texas A&M. When the show held auditions in the area, her friends told her she should go. “I always watched the show.” But watching the show and being on the show are two different things. “I didn’t know what it would be like. It was a little harder [than she thought it would be]. It takes so much to be a good model.”

Living in the house with 12 other girls was a pleasant surprise, however. “It was much better than what I was thinking. They are the greatest group of girls.” Brooke is still in touch with the majority of her former housemates, “especially Leslie” with whom she became very good friends.

So what kept Brooke from becoming America’s Next Top Model? According to the judges, one of her biggest drawbacks was looking too sexy. How do you deal with that? “I would listen to the judges, and I would try to play it down. I never understood why I looked sexy. I didn’t try.” Was she surprised by any of the comments by the judges when she watched it all unfold on television back home? “I’m surprised by what Nigel said. It’s all good though” she chuckled over the phone.

Elimination day is always hard on the girls, but we were curious if any of the previous eliminations had surprised her. “Kari’s because it was out there. Nobody saw that coming. And Mollie Sue’s especially. She has such a huge personality!”

But like many girls that have come before her, Brooke learned a lot about herself while she was on the show. “I learned I need to be more confident. I always cared what everybody thought.” So what would she like people to know about her now? “I’m normally not… I have more confidence than I did on the show. I’m not as weak or as fragile. And I love having fun!”

We asked Brooke if she had any regrets. “Not handling myself as well as I could have. I needed to be more confident. Oh.. also getting in that fight. I feel so bad about that!” Despite those, Brooke says it was worth it, and would “definitely” do it all over again.

Now Brooke is finishing the last 3 semesters of school, then it is off to New York to persue her modeling career. We wish her the best of luck.. and appreciate the time she took to talk with us.
