Kacey Leggett was a contestant during Cycle 15 of ANTM.
The dance teacher from Palmdale, California was 20 years old during her appearance on America’s Next Top Model, Cycle 15.
Kacey auditioned for Cycle 11 and made it to the semifinals, although she wasn’t picked as one of the final 13 girls.
During on-camera interviews in episode 1, Kacey felt she didn’t make a good impression during her elimination from the finals. She said that for this cycle, she felt more mature and comfortable with herself. She commented that her approach for this cycle was to be more aggressive this time around. She said she feels like she has a clean slate in Cycle 15.
During final review, Mr. Jay commented that he liked what she brought to the table, but felt she looked older when she took her glasses off.
Kacey was called 11th during selection of the final 14 girls.
In episode 2, Kacey began on shaky ground by choosing to forego her glasses on the four-stories-high runway for Diane Von Furstenberg. She ended up with a strong performance despite her nervousness before stepping out onto the pink lights lining the catwalk. Mr Jay said, “Kacey rocked the runway. She couldn’t see and still pulled it off with a pose.”
During the “Teen Bully” photo shoot with Deborah Anderson, Mr. Jay commented that she kept using the same ‘blank expression’ in every photo she took. When her photo was being reviewed by the judges, Diane Von Furstenberg commented that she definitely looked like a queen. Tyra added that when she looked at Kacey, she didn’t see a model; she saw a gorgeous athlete. While deliberating, Andre Leon Talley commented that her photo was almost “dreckitude.”
Despite her inconsistent performance, Kacey was called 11th during elimination.
Episode 3 was dedicated to makeovers, but also ended up being a double elimination episode. Kacey was given hair that was sleek and longer; she also received contact lenses. Tyra really wanted to tailor her makeover to help focus on her eyes, as she felt that Kacey’s eyes were one of her strongest features.
Kacey was criticized by the other girls in the house when she began flirting with the male models who were involved in the “Fallen Angels” shoot; especially since she had a boyfriend back home.
When it came time for her photo review in panel, ALT commented that her picture was flat. He said it was beautiful and he liked the positioning of her feet, but not enough to pull the concept off. Guest judge Patricia Field said that her pose was a pretty dance move, but not ‘modely.’
Because of her inconsistent performance in front of the camera, Kacey was called 8th during elimination.
The entire beginning of episode 4 focused on Kacey’s idea to have a BBQ at the Top Model house – all while inviting over the male models from the “Fallen Angels” photo shoot. On camera, a lot of the girls voiced concern that Kacey was flirting with the models again, even though she had a boyfriend. Kacey later commented that she was feeling a negative vibe from the girls in the house.
During their roller coaster challenge at Knott’s Berry Farm, Kacey was tasked with portraying “edgy” while riding the crazy coaster. While her photo was being reviewed, Nigel said that she was too “posey.”
Kacey proved to be a strong competitor during the “Undersea Goddess” photo shoot with Matthew Rolston. The girls had a chance to model jewelry from Martin Katz, Neil Lane and Mikimoto. While shooting, Matthew Rolston commented that “Kacey looked beautiful.” He also added that “she was very good at performing; she exuded a lot of pride and confidence – a womanly, regal quality.”
In panel, ALT said Kacey’s photo “reminded him of some otherworldy photograph from another time.” Nigel said he “loved her hand positioning.” Tyra loved her “surprised face.” Matthew Rolston added that “this was the one shot where the inner life came through.”
While deliberating, ALT said “it’s a billboard in Times Square.” Matthew Rolston concluded that “he liked the picture very much. She’s gorgeous, she projects and she’s vivid.”
Due to her strong performance and positive critique, Kacey was called 2nd during elimination.
Kacey began episode 5 by communicating to cameras that she realized nobody in the house liked her. Upon this realization, she decided to have a house meeting, then play a game to get to know the girls better. Following some revealing conversations between Liz and Jane, the girls got to participate in their next runway challenge at the 2nd Street tunnel in Los Angeles.
For the runway challenge, Kacey and the girls got to model designs by Herve Leroux on a runway where the catwalk consisted of two fast-moving conveyor belts. After shaky performances from the other models, Kacey performed very well considering the crazy catwalk speed. Due to her outstanding performance, Kacey won the challenge, winning jewelry from Lisa Freed.
In panel, after the “Lucha Vavoom” photo shoot with Eddie and Moshe Brahka, ALT said that her photo “looked like high fashion, but she lucked out with brilliant accessories.” Nigel called her photo “interesting.” He also added that “the connection with her eyes were a little ‘deer in the headlights’ and very vacant.” Guest judge Karolina Kurkova commented that her photo “was safe; she didn’t own it.“ Tyra said “she was better than that; she looked way mature, as if she modeled longer than even Tyra did.”
While deliberating, Nigel said that her photo “was a little catalog; a little obvious to him.” Tyra concluded by saying her photo looked like an “online shoe ad.”
Kacey ended up being called 7th during elimination.
Episode 6 began with a CoverGirl challenge. Kacey and the girls were split into groups of three and had to teach the public how to use CoverGirl products. The public judged the girls and so did fashion journalist Derek Blasberg. Kacey was grouped with Esther and Kayla – and they actually won the challenge with their personable demonstration. Kacey received the highest score of the all the girls.
For their photo shoot, the girls got to work with fashion stylist Lori Goldstein and world famous photographer Patrick Demarchelier on Beverly Hills’ Rodeo Drive. Kacey got to shoot with Jane and a male model. During the shoot, Patrick Demarchelier said that “she needed to relax and not pout her lips too much.” He also asked her to “wake up” as she she seemed low energy while shooting.
During panel, ALT said that Kacey looked “snotty and detached” in her group shot. For her walking shot, Nigel said that her body language was “good, but he couldn’t see her face.” Tyra said that her eyes “looked dead; she needed to bring her eyes alive.”
During deliberation, ALT said that “she looked like an African exiled princess.” Nigel added that “she’s got all the pieces she needs to be model, but when you put them all together, and there’s no life behind her eyes, she has nothing.” Tyra said that “she does have something because she won the challenge.” Nigel concluded by saying that she’s a “good spokesperson and that confidence will get her far.”
Kacey’s weak performance landed her in the bottom two with Kayla.
While in the bottom two, Tyra said:
“From week to week, the judges see a beautiful girl with such strong bone structure. But there was a disconnect this week. You were disconnected from your shoot with three people in the shot, you were disconnected when you were walking and you were disconnected in your beauty shot.”
In the end, Kacey was sent home and Kayla was given a chance to compete another week.
Before leaving, Tyra told Kacey:
“You got these beautiful goods, but I think you need more time before you can hang with these girls over here. So if it’s a passion, you gotta go home and you gotta practice, test and do local stuff in Los Angeles before your ready for international. You’re not ready yet and that’s okay. It’s just going to take a little more time for you. Okay?”
During Kacey’s exit interview, she shared:
“It just felt like this was going to be my chance. It just sucks so bad, man. So bad. I feel so defeated, so drained out. Like how do you go home after this? I’m never gonna get over this.”
