Whitney Thompson with Wet Paint about Cycle 16 Premiere (Feb 2011)
February 27, 2011
In February of 2011, Cycle 10‘s Whitney Thompson posted an online article with Wet Paint regarding the premiere of Cycle 16. Here is the text from the post (written and posted by Whitney Thompson):
Exclusive! Whitney Thompson Calls ANTM Cycle 16 Premiere Prank “Not Cool”
Whitney Thompson, Cycle 10 winner of America’s Next Top Model (the first plus-size one ever!) and a model for Wilhelmina, shares her thoughts on Tyra’s Punk’d-style prank, this cycle’s “fiercely real” contestant, Kasia, and more.
America’s Next Top Model’s Cycle 16 premiere started out particularly cruel. During each season so far, 40 girls are initially cast, but only 13-14 are ever chosen to move into the Top Model house. This cycle, Tyra pulled a mean fake-out on the girls, telling the girls whoactually made it to the show that they didn’t and telling the ones who didn’t make it that they did. The worst part was that she chose not to show the reactions of the real rejected contestants — who were apparently told the truth behind closed doors. I realize that this is for television but these girls have real emotions and I don’t think that the “prank” was necessary or cool. My heart goes out to all of the ones that didn’t make it, even though I think the contestants on the show are fantastic.
I am a little biased as a plus-size Wilhelmina model but I do love Kasia, the “fiercely real” girl. She seems really light-hearted and young even though she’s 26 (a bit on the older side for the modeling industry). I would have guessed that she was still a teen — she is absolutely gorgeous. I do think that her walk needs some work and I’m still a little baffled as to why Tyra pulled a girl who was already signed to Wilhelmina and was a successful plus model and stuck her on the show, but I’m hoping that Tyra has some secret, good reasoning behind all of that. Also wondering why Kasia would agree to going on the show, given she was already signed.
Now let’s get to the bubble runway. Funny enough, I actually saw this done at Full figured Fashion Week in New York City and I thought the same thing then as I do now — it looks dumb! The bubble had a huge gash of silver duct tape rolling around which really takes away from the “look.” It’s a really interesting concept and I think that it could be done well, but not with duct tape across the front, lined with cheap confetti, and in the middle of a swimming pool! Once again, I attribute this to the fact that everything on ANTM has to make for good television. Yet, I admit that I watched with horror and delight as each model teeter-tottered down the 12″-wide runway. It really got my attention. There are few things in the world more satisfying then watching a model fall on her face and not be able to get back up! Bravo, Tyra for being a genius and please keep the stunts coming for the rest of the season!
I actually got to shoot with Russell James, who was on last night’s episode, on my cycle of Top Model— he is my absolute favorite photographer. Everything he touches is so full of life. His work is usually brilliant but for a cycle opener I expected a lot more. The photos were beautiful but I wanted to see someone on fire, jumping on a trampoline with a message for curing cancer. I think that this premiere was one of the most boring shoots to date. I found myself tweeting while it was going on and confused about whether it was the “actual” shoot or if there would be another one before panel. But I have to admit, nothing made me giggle more than Nigel describing a girl’s mouth in her photograph as a “cat’s bottom mouth” and making his interpretation of a “cat’s bottom” face. It was hilarious watching this because Nigel is so handsome. I can only hope that he doesn’t say such things about my pictures.
Looking forward to seeing the girls get stung by bees next Wednesday!

CariDee English Interview with Auntie Fashion Blog (Apr 08)
September 25, 2010
In April of 2008, Auntie Fashion met and interviewed Cycle 7‘s winner CariDee English with regards to 2008 Fiercee Awards. Here is the text from the interview (written and posted by Auntie Fashion Blogger):
America’s Next Top Actress
Last night I had the pleasure of attending a forum for the Psoriasis Education Program called Loud and Clear with CariDee. After the forum wrapped up, the winner of America’s Next Top Model Cycle 7 met with fans to shoot the breeze (easy, breezy and beautifully, of course).
I was amongst the autograph hounds lined up to meet CariDee — not as a fan (although she is my favorite winner), but as a crack reporter. Auntie Fashion asks the tough questions that everyone else is afraid to ask.
When I questioned CariDee about the upcoming Fiercee Awards, she was taken off guard. “How do you know about that?” she asked me. I explained that I know everything worth knowing and she accepted that like any rational person would do. She also told me that the Fiercee Awards are going to air on an upcoming Tyra episode where several of the ANTM contestants are going to get what’s coming to them. I can’t wait!
Then I asked CariDee the question that no reporter has been courageous enough to ask: Was she the one responsible for “Smellrose”, undoubtedly the best nickname in ATNM history? “No, that would be Jaeda,” she replied. However, I’m not completely sure that I believed her because she was doing that thing where her eyes dart upward, like she did in her Spanish CoverGirl commercial.
Anyhow, the highlight of the evening was when my friend asked CariDee to reenact the triumphant moment when she won ANTM and hugged Melrose. CariDee committed to the scene like a trouper and the result is the priceless photo I posted above. Give the girl an Oscar!

CariDee English Writes About Hospital Stay on Facebook (June 09)
September 23, 2010
In June of 2009, Cycle 7‘s CariDee English posted an update regarding her hospital visit on her Facebook page. Here is the text from the post (written and posted by CariDee):
Update on Hospital Visit
Hey All!
Hope this note finds you in good health and happiness.
I’m sure many of you have heard that I had a hospital stint earlier this week. Just want to let you know that I’m recovering quickly and will soon be back to the same quirky ‘Dee!
I also wanted to let you all know what exactly happened. Sunday night I went into the UCLA emergency room because I had a horrible pain and lump in my lower body.
I felt it eariler that week and the pain increased to the point of being paralyzing. I couldn’t walk or move. Saturday I went to an urgent care doctor who told me “i was fine” and gave me a prescription for a heavy pain killer and some antibiotics. Saturday night was a sleepless one full of pain that wasn’t being helped by the pills, so on Sunday my friend drove me to UCLA ER where I was immediately checked in by their helpful staff and told that I would be having surgury to remove the abscess lump 2 hours later. I had a hard recovery and the doctors wanted to make sure I was going to be ok, so I stayed in the hospital for 3 more days. I had my best friends by my side and a great team of doctors to help. I was released Wednesday evening, and now I have a nurse that comes over once a day to check up and change my bandages. I have been told that by next Friday I will have a full recovery. So on my time down I am counting my blessings, resting and eating lots of yummy food. Thank you all for your concerns and best wishes! I need this rest but can not wait to be up and working again! I want to leave on the note that it is of extreme importance to take care of yourself and not be afraid to ask for a second opniion. Without mine I would have been in a whole different situation. Love you all my darlings and God bless…

CariDee English Post on Reality TV Games (Mar 2010)
September 22, 2010
In March of 2010, Cycle 7‘s CariDee English posted an update regarding her life/career/struggles on Reality TV Games ANTM Forum. Here is the text from the post (written and posted by CariDee herself as screen name “The Real CariDee”):
Hey darlings…
I just wanted to take the time and say hi, and introduce you to the girl that you love, and well, love to hate. (When did this happen?!) My name is CariDee English. Yes, I read up on what you take the time to post, because I put my heart into my work and read the feedback.
Yes, I have shorter hair now, and no I don’t have fake lips, the short hair made my lips stand out more since there is nothing covering past my ears.
I decided to cut my hair after my most recent flare of psoriasis. I wanted to shed anything that was covering me, and start fresh. I had series of challenges this year and think it’s only fair if I can share with you myself.
I was hospitalized 3 times this year. I had to recover in the hospital for about a week, and 2 weeks of at home nurse after care. I had emergency surgery both times because of sever infections through out my body. I then had to get off my psorasisis treatment.
As you all know I have an auto immune disease, psoriasis. (much more than a “skin disease”) And having it effects sometime severally my immune system. The FDA took my treatment off the market because of the severe side effects, and found it no longer safe.
So I had to be taken off after my surgeries, because obviously my immune system needed to get some power back to it.
This caused a 65 percent body flare of psoriasis. Trying to heal at the same time, and stay positive, and stay in my work was a bit of a juggle. I couldn’t begin to explain how hard it was sometimes to keep my head up. Like I said before, I am only a woman.
But I took the time to see why this was all happening, and what I could do to make it all “on purpose” CariDee came back, and I was going to be on top again.…
I made a decision on my own not to go on another treatment to control my disease for a while. I thought about all the boys, girls, men and woman that confide in me with their personal struggle of psorasisis and life, and knew I had to make my advocacy bigger. I have this for a reason, and I am going to embrace it and document it. I wanted to expose myself as who I am, and what my disease looks like.
So what did a top model do when she was covered in psorasisis? She got in front of the camera and smiled with her eyes, skin flare and all! Duh darlings, its me here! The pictures are raw, and most importantly, they are me. Naturally Dee.
Then I was pretty much over being covered and sheltered and I wanted to get back to work. So I talked to my Doctors, got educated and found a treatment that is currently working for me.
Now Im stomping on this ground with a whole new motivation, and a whole new drive. I am and will always be CariDee, and lets not forget I will and promise to always surprise people, by being crazy, silly, sweet, funny… isn’t that what made you love me in the first place?
Oh and the ABC interview thats posted above.. I had this bud in my ear, feeding me an interview from a lady I couldn’t see, and hardly hear. I got shoved in there last minute with no prep, and I was EXHAUSTED from all my work I loaded in the last 3 weeks. I wish I could fix the top right part of my hair when watching it. And whomever did my lip liner, I’m a little concerned about … So I didn’t do so great on one. Watch the NY1 interview… it was earlier that day, and much more prepared.
I’d like to fill you guys in what life has been like for me since winning top model, speaking for myself so maybe some of you can understand I am still that girl you loved on the show,I know you all had so much support for me during the show, and I still need it now.
Yes, I moved to LA and I hosted a show called Pretty Wicked, I thought when I signed on I would be able to have my personality shine again, but just like modeling, sometimes a host just has to do the job, and keep “you” out of it.
(Such a struggle for this girl btw!!!)
I chose to be exclusive for the network for about a year when I first signed on. It was up to the network and other factors to decided to make 1 or 5 seasons in that year. Either way I agreed to be only available to them for a while.
I gave it my all, and appreciated the fun it was to work with such an amazing network and amazing production. I learned so much, and now have the hosting, television bug!
I also learned moderation when It comes to the catered food…. I gained a bit o weight as we all saw. But man it was fun doing it. But not so fun to watch and read people talking about my body. Talk about bizarre and a bit hurtful.
Whateva, if you all could even understand what those mash potatoes, and gravy tasted like! Mmmmm. Oh and unlimited supply of oreos and milk?! Come on, I was out of model country (nyc) and I had a real Hollywood trailer, and cater to go along with it!
Ok, so moderation. I get it. Jeeeeeeez.
As you can see on page 58, I’m back in my modeling forum. AND most importantly a healthy one!!! I love working out with my skin being clear again, I’m loving swimming in this LA weather!
My agreement with Pretty Wicked was fulfilled and now I have my hands in something else.
I’m working on my own show now I created, that I know all of you will love, and get to know again the girl you saw win antm. Plus I get to have creative rights to it, because after all it was this blondes idea! So go get your adult diapers ready. If you smell what Im steppin in.
Also, because my flare of psorasisis was so bad for so many months this year, it allowed me to dive into another side that I love. Music.
I’ve been recording with Better Than Ezra’s Tom Drummond, and Todd Wright in New Orleans. I’m doing lead vocals and drumming, playing guitar, piano and having a fabulous time. We have 3 songs done so far, and its been so fun, and the music is great.
I can’t wait to share it with you guys. Soon.
And if you’re wondering if I can actually sing, I’m just going to say I’m not as rangy as Mariah Carey, but Im far from William Hung. Haha, dont worry, music is second nature, and it’s not as off beat as my runway walk.
It’s amazing. I’m working with amazing, successful, musicians too. They wouldn’t take me on, if I was talentless in music.
So now we have it. An honest update of me, CariDee.
I have so much love for you guys, and appreciate your support.
My facebook and myspace (myspace.com/therealcaridee) will be updated on my new work, and whomever pulls my images from there and post them on this site, I appreciate it.
How about that shot of me and Anchal huh? Love her.
Remember one thing, there is no elevator to success, you have to take the stairs.
Magically yours …
